Film Screening- Ancestral Voices, Esoteric African Knowledge A documentary demystifying the negative stigma and misconceptions surrounding African spirituality. Longbelly Entertainment Ltd is a video production company based in the United Kingdom headed by husband and wife team, Dalian Adofo and Verona Spence. They independently funded, produced and directed the documentary Ancestral Voices: Esoteric African Knowledge to open an objective and informed global discourse on the subject of African spirituality, a topic often stigmatizes and vilified through its representations by mainstream media. The documentary is an educational resource that investigates similar tenets found in many established mainstream religions and African systems and In doing so probes the viewer to question ‘Why are other religions validated whereas African systems are not, when they share much in common, particularly in their cosmological framework?’ Synopsis: An educational documentary spanning two continents, opening up a much-needed debate about traditional African spiritual systems; their cosmologies, ideologies and underlying ethical principles. Modern science no longer refutes the origins of mankind being in Africa and similarities in the cosmological ideologies of African esoteric systems with those found in many established world regions today, suggest that it was not only people that migrated, but also concepts and themes that then provided the bedrock for the formation of other systems of belief. The documentary aims to shed light on a topic in much mystique, negativity, superstition and ignorance, to allow for informed discourse on the subject without fear of persecutions or oppression. Through video interviews, a range of individuals of different faiths in the United Kingdom share their experiences and knowledge of these esoteric systems and their perceptions of them in light of other established religions and mainstream media coverage of these esoteric systems. Traditional shaman from the Greater Accra, Eastern Ashanti regions in Ghana, West Africa, are also interviewed to provide authentic accounts of their cosmologies, practices and esoteric spiritual systems.
