The Act of Killing is a documentary film by Joshua Oppenheimer which focuses on a turbulent time in Indonesia’s history, where hundreds of Indonesians were killed following an alleged communist coup. The documentary has won several film awards including the 2013 European Film Award for Best Documentary, the Asia Pacific Screen Award and the best documentary at the 2014 BAFTA awards. It was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 2014 Academy Awards. The film is highly controversial and among other criticisms does not set the political context for the film content. Rio will address these issues. Plastic Pollution has become a man-made global catastrophe. Over the last 60 years plastic has become central to our lives and as a result mankind has subjected the planet to a tsunami of plastic waste. The scale of the problem is exponential - in the last 10 years the World has used more plastic than it did in the previous 100 years. In 2014 alone we will produce around 300 million tonnes of plastic; the ridiculous thing is that 50% of it will be used just once.
